The University Library’s operations are organised under:
This department is responsible for acquiring books and other resource. The library does this in collaboration with faculty. Normally, the Librarian requests books titles from the faculty that are relevant to effective teaching and learning. With this information the library liaises with the procurement unit through the university management to acquire the recommended text for processing on continual bases.
This department is responsible for processing acquired books and other information resources for orderly storage and easy retrieval. The HTU adopts the library of congress (LC) classification scheme for processing all its information resources acquired.
The library’s collection has also been catalogued and classified. The Library of Congress Classification Scheme is the tool for the subject organization of the materials, and the Library World software is also been used for cataloguing of the library’s materials.
This section is responsible for making the library resources available to users. This involves searching and finding information for users, charging and discharging library resources (borrowing materials) as well as registering new members to grant them right to access library resources.
Again, all books from the regular collection, may be checked out. Residents of the University community are welcome to use the Library facilities and resources. One of the Library’s primary functions is to provide easy access to information for the University community.
The library users include, faculty, students, and other users of the library. All users will be accorded the privilege of using materials in the Library; however, they may not borrow materials from the Library. Persons requiring borrowing service shall provide a form of identification, except under rare Situations, with the express approval by the client services Librarian. The Library reserves the right to recall any or all materials checked, despite the borrowing period or renewal privileges of the client.
This unit houses resources that are special in nature or limited collection and for that matter can only be consulted in the library. Users are assisted to find and use these resources. This process of assisting users to obtain the appropriate information, requested for from the reserved and reference collection is what is referred to as reader and reference services.
This department offers access to internet and E-resources. The Nunya library is a member of the consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH). CARLIGH offers its members access to host of E-resources or database. From the Nunya library website users can access E-resources and OPAC (local database). The E-library also has links to a lot of open access resources where the students and lecturers can download journal articles and E-books.
This unit is responsible for providing indirect services that support the running of the library. These include reprographic services, binding and mending of worn out books. Technical services that are related to computer networks are provided in collaboration with staff from the ICT Directorate.
The Nunya library’s resources are made up of both print and electronic materials. The print resource is made up of textbooks for the various programs that the University runs, reference materials such as encyclopedias, wordbooks, fact books, almanacs, directories, dictionaries, thesaurus and maps. It also includes periodicals such as academic journals, newspapers, magazines and Ghana Government publication. The E-library section houses the E-resources. These include the various database (E-resources) of CARLIGH, the open access resources, E-books and Nunya library local collections.
